Daredevil: Born Again
The first of three projects completed during the Summer of Style Frames course with designer Justin Harder/Claus Studios.
The task was to create a tv bumper for a series. I chose to do Daredevil: Born Again*, having been a fan of the character growing up and of the recent Netflix series. The creative direction was to focus on the two worlds that Matthew Murdock lives in; his drive for justice and his faith. Focusing on the stained glass windows from catholic churches, it provided the necessary shroud of diffusion that envelopes Daredevil and the tone I would hope this show encompassed. For the type, I took inspiration from vintage boxing posters, the papier-mache served as a distinct background and the type was one font family to create the look.
The color was the unifying element throughout the frames. I wanted to primarily use red and yellow, much like the original suit from the comics. It felt intune with the idea of “Born Again” as this would be a continuation of the Charlie Cox interpretation we saw in the Netflix series but also evolving into something deeper and to stand on its own.
Additionally, I created key art to pair with the tv bumper that carries the same ideas and tone from the frames.
*I created this before the announcement that it would become a series, so I manifested this and I think that’s cool.
