The Great Escape

The Great Escape is a fantasy adventure story about a couple who find themselves in a mysterious game; with the objective of trying to stay alive. An escape room with 10 challenges, each more difficult than the last, designed to provoke the player physically and emotionally.

The exploration of the cover centered around creating a captivating design that contained subtle hints of the story to come. In the drafts, we realized that the main characters needed to be at the forefront of the design while incorporating the hex shape helped allude to the danger ahead. The author singled out the big, bold type as a positive element throughout the sketches. This led to incorporating a grand, regal type style to contrast with the hexes and intertwine with the characters themselves. The characters are colored according to the vibrancy of their behavior and decisions made in the book. The orange for the character Eric as he is muddled in his actions but provides a boldness to their survival. The pink for Andrea, which calls to the sharp and calculated choices that continuously save their lives.
